Goat Cheese with Herbs and Edible Flowers

July 26, 2016 by Leave a Comment

Happy Summer everyone! We are in the middle of a wonderful Michigan summer and are loving every minute. I’m realizing it is harder and harder for me to sit down at the computer because I just want to be outside soaking up the sun or playing in my garden every chance I get. But I did want to pop in and share a quick and easy way to use edible flowers. I haven’t experimented with edible flowers that much yet but I’m eager to start since the nasturtium, marigolds and calendula are ruling the garden right now. I need to find ways to put them to good use.

So this isn’t really a recipe or a new concept but sometimes the easiest things are the best things. All you really do here is decorate a log of goat cheese with herbs and flowers.  :)

If you aren’t sure what flowers are edible and what aren’t, here is a pretty good list from the National Gardening Association.  I would only recommend using flowers that you’ve grown yourself organically or are buying from a reputable source.  You don’t want to accidentally ingest harmful fertilizers or pesticides.

Goat Cheese with Herbs and Edible Flowers

1 tablespoon fresh herbs, chopped
Edible flowers (such as nasturtium, calendula, lavender, pansies, or marigolds)
4 ounces goat cheese

Finely chop herbs and edible flower petals. Reserve some flower petals for decoration. Mix goat cheese with chopped herbs and flowers until well combined. Shape goat cheese into a log and decorate with flower petals. Serve with your favorite crackers or sliced bread.  Enjoy!
