This summer we packed up the car and took a road trip to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. I’m finally getting around to sharing some of our pics! I had never actually been past Mackinaw Bridge so I was way overdue to explore this part of my hometown state. We took a little over a week to explore and loved it all.
We spent our first night in Mackinaw City and then spent the next day riding bikes around Mackinaw Island.
Next we headed to Paradise and Tahquamenon Falls.
If you are looking for a place to stay near Tahquamenon Falls, I highly recommend the Tahquamenon Suites. This was actually one of our favorite places we stayed. It was brand-new and the suites had a kitchen, living space, and a separate bedroom. Super clean and really affordable too.
Sunrise over Whitefish Bay in Paradise, Michigan. Totally worth getting up early to catch this sunrise. Also, swimming in Whitefish Bay was wonderful, the water was perfectly warm and clear. Loved it.
Next up was Munising and Pictured Rocks. We took a sunset kayak tour and the views of the cliffs were amazing from the water.
These pics are from inside a cave that we were able to kayak through.
It was cloudy all day but we lucked out with a great sunset.
We also took a hike to the beach along Pictured Rocks.
Marquette was our next destination. This pic above was a view from Sugarloaf and the pic below is from a hike to Dead River Falls.
From there we got ready to head to Isle Royal National Park. There are a couple of ways to get to the island. Our original plan was to take the sea plane both ways which worked out on the way there but we ended up taking the boat back due to bad weather. There was a little bit of stress involved due to flight delays, not being sure we were going to be able to get off the island but I’d say it was worth it.
We didn’t see any moose but the squirrels were pretty cute!
I have such homestate pride. I think Michigan is a great place to live and all the natural beauty that is in the UP just confirms my love for the mitten state.
