Beauty Product Empties

May 27, 2015 by 1 Comment

I have collected a bunch of empties recently.  I have been trying to use up products before purchasing more but it’s so tough!  I haven’t bought much lately but I did give in to the recent Sephora sale…I’m strong but not that strong.  Here are a couple of things I’ve used up and what I thought of the product.

I think Boscia is becoming one of my favorite skin care lines.  My skin seems to respond well to all of their products.  I have repurchased the Clear Complexion Cleanser a few times now and that says a lot since I love trying out new products.  I also tried the Soothing Cleansing Cream because it was on super sale on the Boscia.com website.   It was a nice creamy cleanser but I don’t think I would buy it again and I think it is discontinued anyways.

I had high hopes for this Nivea In-Shower Body Lotion since I’m lazy about body lotion but I just wasn’t that into it.  I wasn’t a fan of the smell and I didn’t think that it added much moisture to my skin.

I picked up this at Marshall’s to keep in the shower.  I really liked it. It was very gentle and the smell reminded me of an oatmeal cookie.

I liked this Alba Botanica French Lavender Shower Gel .  The smell was nice and it lathered up nicely.

The Body Shop Mango Body Butter is always a good bet.  It takes a little while to sink in but the smell is so darn good.

I wasn’t a fan of the as a face cream.  It unfortunately stung my skin and had a very strong fragrance.  I ended up using it has a body cream instead.

Origins Eye Doctor was a good eye cream but nothing too exciting to report.  It was light but moisturizing.  This small sample size lasted forever but I don’t think I’ll repurchase.

That’s all for now!

Product Empties #1

January 4, 2015 by 2 Comments

I love trying out new beauty products but I also love reading and hearing about what other people have thought of different products.  I thought I would share a few products that I recently used up.

Just an FYI: I’m pretty picky with beauty products since there are so many out there I will rarely repurchase something unless it was an perfect 10.

First up, two Alba Botanica products:

Alba Hawaiian Facial Scrub – This was a very gentle scrub that smelled nice but not overpowering.  I definitely love the bright packaging but I didn’t feel anything special that would make me repurchase.

Alba Cleansing Gel – This line from Alba has a very strong smell (I also have the moisturizer).  So definitely smell it if you can before buying to see if you like it.  The cleanser worked well and was very mild.  But I’m just not into the smell.

Sephora Flawless Moisturizing Lotion SPF 15 – Looks like Sephora doesn’t sell this product anymore.  I think I did buy it on sale.  This lotion was not too heavy and didn’t have an offensive smell which I appreciated.  The packaging was not the best – the lotion tended to get that weird lotion booger on the nozzle (I hope you know what I mean by that??) that would cause the lotion to squirt out weird.  Also it was hard to tell when the product was getting low because the packaging was so heavy and opaque.

Origins A Perfect World Antioxidant Moisturizer  – I liked this moisturizer.  It was light but hydrating.  The only thing is the smell wasn’t my favorite – sounds weird but it distinctly smelled like Barcardi Limon which did not bring back pleasant memories.  I think I’m more of a fan of the Origins Plantscription line.

John Frieda Fine to Full Blow-Out Spray – My hair is pretty fine and can be kinda flat.  I’m on the search for the magic product that will give me major volume.  This spray did give a little volume at the roots but also tended to make the rest of my hair sort of puffy/frizzy.  So the search continues…

Finally these are two prodcuts I really really did not like…

Revlon Colorstay Lip Liner – This liner was so dry and chalky it made my lips ridiculousy dry.  The color was ok but the formula was just crap.   I love the Revlon Balm Stains but this was a big miss.

–  I was so happy to finally use up this facewash.  It smelled so strongly of tea tree oil it would actually cause me to choke if I accidentally inhaled while using it.  It was also very very watery.

I also wanted to mention that I usually save up my emply beauty products and send them to TerraCycle to recycle since I’m never sure if certain makeup containers can be recycled.  TerraCycle specializes in difficult to recycle packaging and products.   They provide the shipping label so I just keep a box in my bathroom and send it in when it gets full.  If you send in enough you can eventually start to earn points, enter contests, and other fun stuff.  Check it out!
